Warplanes bomb eastern Syria

Rockets landed on a US military site in northeast Syria just days ago, prompting Washington to reinforce its presence in the area.

Airstrikes targeted a number of areas in Syria’s eastern city of Deir Ezzor and its countryside on 26 March, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries.

“At 1:49 AM, American aircraft carried out several simultaneous air strikes targeting a number of areas in the governorate and its countryside,” Syria’s government-affiliated National Defense Forces (NDF) said, according to Sputnik.

The strikes targeted the Salhiya area in Al-Bukamal near the Iraqi border and residential areas in the Al-Mayadin and Al-Qusour areas in Deir Ezzor.

A building was also targeted on the University Presidency Street in Deir Ezzor city, causing one death and one injury.

Fifteen people were reported to have been killed in the attacks, five of them in Al-Bukamal. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that at least 34 were injured.

The Iranian Embassy in Syria and other IRGC-affiliated Telegram channels reported that Quds Force Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) Behrouz Vahidi was assassinated in the strikes.
