Barack Obama had a half-hour phone call on Saturday with Zohran Mamdani, the 34-year-old Queens congressman who, according to polls, could be crowned mayor of New York on Tuesday. The 44th president did not formally endorse Mamdani, but those who attended the conversation reported Barack’s compliments to the young Democratic candidate for his “error-free” campaign. Obama made himself available to Mamdani as a sort of super-consultant for building the city’s governing apparatus and staff once he takes office at City Hall. Mamdani, his spokespeople said, appreciated the call.
